Hey y’all! My name is Savannah and I'm behind @theprettybible. I'm an 18 year old Instagram blogger with a passion for the Lord and Bible journaling!
Bible journaling is something that I have loved to do for a really long time now. I am often asked about the Bibles I use, the techniques, colors, markers, pens, and the products. I love to answer those questions of course, but at the end of the day, none of them really matter.
If you want to get the most out of journaling, don’t pay attention to the who, what, when, where, and how: focus on the "why."
I Bible journal because I love Jesus and want to have a deeper connection with His word. For me, opening up my Bible and reading it everyday can be extremely difficult, especially if I have distanced myself from God for whatever reason.
God often chooses to speak to us whenever we obey His command to submerge ourselves into His Word. As shallow as it may seem, journaling is my form of creative expression, therefore is an incentive for me to open my Bible on the days when it’s the last thing I want to do. On my Instagram, you will often see the margins of my Bible all decorated with a rewritten verse. That is what I pretend journaling is, but really it runs so much deeper.
What you don’t see on Instagram are my margins full of prayers of conviction and question marks next to verses I don’t understand. I love being able to flip back through my Bible and see all of the notes that I have collected through the years, along with all of the prayers God answered.
When I use journaling as a way to meditate on God’s Word, He speaks to me in ways I would have never thought possible. He brings me comfort, peace, conviction, and a joy that cannot be explained. The moral of the story is I journal because it allows me to connect to the Word of God in a personal way that I can reflect on forever.
To those who want to start Bible journaling: just start. You don’t need anything fancy, just a willingness to be authentic. If you feel something when reading a verse, write it down. If God convicts you, write it down. If you are reading and are getting nothing out of it, write that down too.
Journaling can just be between you and God if you wish. But at the end of the day, just have fun with it!
If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask!
