Hi there, my name is Hannah Marie and I run Hisfireflies- an online ministry and blog for Christian women. I have a passion for helping women find their identity in the Lord and shine their light for Him. Make sure to follow along with my ministry here!
In a world where we look to the culture to direct our every move, it is hard to give God complete control of our lives. The culture tells us how to dress and what to say. Hollywood directs our relationships and outlook on life. Despite how old we may be, we are constantly influenced by our peers.
With all of the voices around us, it is very easy to believe the world’s lies.
How can we overcome this problem of listening to the lies of the world and allowing the culture to define us? The answer is in giving God control of our lives and letting Him define us.
God should be the only One who defines you. He created you and designed you. He breathed breath into your lungs, so why wouldn’t you want Him to be the One who gets to say who you were made to be?
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well." -Psalm 139:13-14
No matter what the world may tell you, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are God’s wonderful creation. He knows you so well and loves you beyond measure. You are His, because you are His beloved child, He wants you to live according to His ways.
The world will entice you with temptation and tell you that sin is completely normal and okay, but if you turn to God’s Word, you will see otherwise. The Lord wants you to live set-apart from the world and follow His ways.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” -Romans 12:2
Let God transform you into someone who is set-apart from this world, different then who the culture says you have to be.
I want to give you some practical ways to turn away from the culture’s lies and begin to allow God to define you and transform your heart for Him.
Schedule to study your Bible every day. (This really helps!)
Listen to Christian/worship music instead of secular music.
Choose to read spiritual books instead of romance novels and celebrity magazines.
Pray throughout the day and fill your mind with truth.
These are just a few ways to help you start living for the Lord and turning your mind away from the culture and its lies.
God created you, so He should be the one who defines you. He truly loves you and wants the best for you. Remember that when the world tries to tell you otherwise.
Are you allowing God to define you? How can you take practical steps to letting the Lord transform your heart and mind today?
