Keep Running Your Race

I got saved when I was 20 years old. At that time, I was still living a sinful, ungodly life. I didn’t
know hardly anything about the Bible, or God’s plan and purpose for my life. All I knew for sure
at that point was that Jesus is our Lord and Savior.
For many Christians, they think that there needs to be some sort of instant change or revival in
their life either before or immediately after they get saved. But honestly, that doesn’t happen for
everyone, and the requirements for salvation aren’t to change your life.
Salvation is by grace, through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9).
It is to acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, and that Savior is Jesus Christ, who came down to this Earth (as God in the flesh) and died for our sins when He was nailed to the Cross at Calvary.
Jesus then rose from the grave three days later and now sits on the right-hand throne of God. This is what you must believe to be saved. Take a look at the thief on the cross. He believed that Jesus was Lord, and that he was a sinner who deserved the punishment that he received for his sins. He believed in the truth about Jesus and that is why Jesus said, “today, thou shalt be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).
The point is, if you are new to becoming a born-again Christian, give yourself some time, and
grace, to grow and mature in the faith. For some Christians, once they get saved, there is
something inside of them that ignites and causes them to change their life around in such a
wonderful, Godly way. This might be because they grew up in the Church, in a Christian
household, or got saved from a young age (it all depends).
But for others, it is a slow start to staying on the straight and narrow, walking in the spirit, and denying the desires of the flesh (especially if you are older, or are new to attending Church, and learning all about God and the Bible).
When you become a born-again, Bible-believing Christian, you enter into a spiritual battle. You
are constantly at odds against fighting the desires of your old self (your flesh) whilst wanting to
start a new life, walking in the spirit, following Jesus and doing His Will in your life.
This can be a hard thing to get used to at first, but once you are able to put on the full armor of God and confidently fight against the principalities and rulers of darkness, it is just gets easier from there.
The most important thing that you can do is put all of your faith and trust in God alone. To feel
this kind of fire igniting inside of you, that yearns to walk solely in the spirit and can easily win
these spiritual battles that we face each day, is something that you will start to experience in
time.
For me, it has taken many years to be able to reach this point of spiritual growth in my life. For
the first three years of my new life with Christ, I was fornicating, lying, swearing, losing spiritual
battles constantly and not doing God’s Will in my life. But I still had a burning desire to get to
know the Lord, study His Word and incorporate it into my life, because when you get saved,
there is something inside of you that wants to get to know the Lord, our Maker.
Over time, I was able to understand more about God’s Word, and my plan and purpose He has
for my life. I stopped entertaining those sins, and the wants of the flesh. I truly started to live in
the spirit, as a new creation unto God (2 Corinthian 5:17).
To this day, I am still learning, and growing and maturing in the faith, as a 29-year-old woman. But looking back upon where I started to where I am now, I can truly say that I am “rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:17).
So if you are reading this today, and feel as though what I have shared has truly resonated with
you, then I encourage you to keep the faith, focus on God above, put Him first in all that you do,
study His Word and incorporate it into your daily life.
Fuel the fire inside of you to ignite that burning desire to be on fire for Christ.
